Ko Taku Reo | Deaf Education New Zealand is the national provider of education services for Deaf and hard of hearing learners. Grounded in our values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and ako, we are committed to celebrating Deaf culture, advancing bilingualism in NZSL, Te Reo Māori and English, and ensuring equitable learning outcomes for all learners.
We are seeking an exceptional educational leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as Deputy Principal, Pedagogy and Curriculum – a pivotal role providing strategic and operational leadership across, Curriculum, Pedagogy, Professional Development, Evaluation and Reporting, and Resources.
About the role | Te tūranga
As Deputy Principal, Pedagogy and Curriculum, you will lead the design and delivery of Pedagogy and Curriculum frameworks that drive excellence in Deaf education across Aotearoa. This includes overseeing pedagogy, curriculum and resource development, evaluation and reporting, and professional learning that empowers educators and improves outcomes for Deaf and hard of hearing learners.
Reporting to the Executive Principal, you will lead a highly capable Pedagogy and Curriculum Team and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation. You’ll foster a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement – where learning, wellbeing, and inclusion sit at the heart of everything we do.

- Innovative, evidence-based Pedagogy
- Bicultural and bilingual practice (NZSL, Te Reo Māori and English)
- Evaluation and Reporting that advances Deaf education in Aotearoa
- Professional development that builds capability and celebrates identity

You are an inspiring educational leader with the vision and mana to shape the future of Deaf education. You bring deep understanding of inclusive Deaf pedagogy, a strong appreciation of culture and NZSL, and a proven ability to lead complex educational systems with clarity and compassion.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in senior educational leadership, ideally in Deaf or specialist education
- Strong background in curriculum, Deaf pedagogy, and professional learning design
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a genuine commitment to bicultural leadership
- Authentic communication, cultural competence, and relational leadership
- A strategic mindset and the ability to turn ideas into action
