Head of Careers and Student Pathways to Success 2027 (full-time permanent)

Long Bay College is seeking a passionate and dedicated Head of Careers to lead our careers team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping young people develop clear pathways in school and further study, training, employment and future opportunities.

The successful applicant will provide strategic leadership, pathways development and student transition programmes, while retaining dedicated operational support through the Careers Administrator and Gateway/STAR Coordinator roles.

Working closely with the Principal, Senior Leadership Team, Deans, Careers and Pathways staff, Atawhai teachers, students, whānau, tertiary providers, employers and community partners, you will help students identify their strengths, set goals and transition successfully beyond school.

Key areas of responsibility include leading Careers Education and Pathways Development across Years 9–13, supporting NCEA qualification progress, overseeing STAR, Gateway, workplace learning, tertiary transition opportunities and leading the careers / pathway components of the Pastoral Programme, Atawhai.

This role requires a clear and confident communicator who is relational, organised, strategic and student-centred. A culturally responsive approach is essential, along with strong educational leadership.

The terms and conditions of this position, including base salary and hours of work, are governed by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement (STCA). The base salary for trained and registered teachers ranges from $61,329 to $103,086, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and teaching experience. An individual’s actual base salary will be determined through a formal salary assessment once an appointment is confirmed.

The position carries 2 Management Units (MU), 1 Middle Management Allowance (MMA), and the Careers Advisor Allowance, as provided for in the STCA.
