About us

Rangitoto College is a vibrant, high-performing secondary school committed to academic, cultural, and personal excellence. Our Library is at the heart of our learning community - a dynamic, inclusive, and modern space designed to support curriculum delivery, foster a rich reading culture, and build vital information literacy skills for our students and staff. We are seeking an enthusiastic, tech-savvy, and student-focused Librarian to join our dedicated Library team.

About the Role
In this dynamic role, you will help shape a modern library environment that meets the evolving learning needs of our students. Working closely with the Library Manager, teaching staff, and student librarians, you will be responsible for both day-to-day library operations and engaging literacy initiatives. This position is for a fixed term for 1 year (2027 academic year) due to a specific project supporting the relocation, collection reorganisation, and operational transition of our library into its new building facility.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Collection & Technical Management: Overseeing cataloguing, processing, weeding, and stocktaking using Oliver LMS; managing digital learning resources (Learnpath, NZ Herald databases, eBooks).
  • Student Engagement & Supervision: Creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive library environment during break times and study classes; actively mentoring and training our Student Librarians (leading workshops, interviewing team leaders, and co-ordinating student communications).
  • Literacy & Orientation Initiatives: Developing and delivering database workshops, Year 9 & International student orientations, Book Club, Readers’ Rumble, and promotional events (Library Week, holiday reading).
  • Digital Promotion & Innovation: Utilising digital platforms (Canva, Yodeck, Google Suite, social media) to promote library resources, with an interest in exploring AI applications in modern library services.
  • Curriculum Collaboration: Partnering with teachers to support research, information literacy, and classroom learning goals.

What We Are Looking For

We would love to hear from you if you possess:
  • Experience & Rapport with Young People: A genuine passion for working with young people, with the patience, empathy, and communication skills to engage and guide secondary students.
  • Library Experience or Qualification: Proven experience in library operations, cataloguing, and management systems (experience with Oliver LMS is highly desirable).
  • A Passion for Reading: A wide knowledge of literature, particularly Young Adult fiction, and a drive to inspire a love of reading.
  • Technical & Digital Competency: Proficiency in Google Suite, Canva, database platforms, and modern digital promotion tools, alongside an eagerness to embrace emerging tools (e.g., AI in education).
  • Exceptional Interpersonal & Organisational Skills: Strong initiative, adaptability, high integrity/confidentiality, and the ability to thrive as part of a collaborative team.

To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and why you would be a great fit for Rangitoto College.

In accordance with the Children’s Act 2014, the successful applicant will be required to undergo full safety checking, including police vetting and reference checks, prior to appointment.
