Teacher of the Deaf - Hillmorton (& other CHCH Provisions)
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced primary-trained teacher to join Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand in a permanent, full-time position.
Based at Hillmorton High School, this unique role supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) learners across our Christchurch provisions. Regular travel between sites is required, so a full New Zealand driver's licence is essential.
We are seeking a New Zealand registered teacher with at least 5 years’ experience teaching primary and/or intermediate-aged learners and strong knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum. You will have confidence to use evidence informed best practice for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners, to build positive relationships with students and whānau, and to work collaboratively with the team around a learner.
Experience working with DHH learners is preferable. However, a commitment to and experience in, inclusive education is essential. Proficiency in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) is desirable. Applicants who are not yet proficient must be committed to developing their NZSL skills, with professional learning and support provided.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- New Zealand teacher registration and a current practising certificate.
- Proven recent experience teaching primary and/or intermediate-aged learners.
- Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum.
- Experience differentiating learning programmes for learners ranging from Year 1 – Year 13.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- A full New Zealand driver's licence.
- NZSL proficiency or a commitment to learning NZSL.
