Team Lead Registered Nurse
Position Type: Permanent, Term-Time Only
Hours: 35 hours per week (8:30 AM – 4.00 PM, Monday to Friday)
Remuneration: Competitive (aligned with Senior Nurse/Lead Nurse scales)
The Opportunity
Rangitoto College is seeking an outstanding leader seeking a dynamic, clinically expert Lead Registered Nurse to head our Health Centre team. This is a new pivotal leadership role, designed to shift our health services into a high-performance clinical governance model.
With a student roll of 4,200, our school functions as a mini-metropolis.
The successful candidate will provide clinical oversight, ensuring our triage model is safe, fast, and effective. You will be the clinical anchor for our team of three Registered Nurses and the primary medical liaison for our HOD Guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership: Take the lead on all medical protocols, taking clinical accountability away from non-medical leadership.
- Advanced Triage: Master and model a "Treat and Street" fast-triage ethos during peak times, ensuring student safety while maximising classroom attendance.
- Team Development: Mentor and upskill the nursing team; conduct annual performance reviews and professional development planning.
- Governance & Policy: Create, audit, and update all Health Centre policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Rangitoto School Board requirements, Nursing Council of NZ (NCNZ) and Medsafe standards.
- Culture: Proactively manage team dynamics, handle conversations with professionalism, and foster a unified, high-functioning team environment.
- Revenue & Funding: Oversee ACC documentation and lead audits for the School High Health Needs Fund (SHHNF) to optimise health centre resources.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be a Registered Nurse with a current Practising Certificate and:
- Experience: Previous experience in a secondary school environment or a high-volume emergency/primary care setting is highly preferred.
- Leadership: You are comfortable leading a team, making tough clinical calls under pressure, and holding staff to high professional standards.
- Educational Mindset: You enjoy teaching and can coach other nurses in advanced triage techniques.
- Administrative Precision: You have a sharp eye for policy and the ability to manage the "business" side of a health clinic (Standing Orders, ACC, Ministry of Education funding applications).
- Relationship Focus: You can work seamlessly with our Guidance and Pastoral teams to provide holistic care for our students. You will also be a strong communicator to update caregivers on their students’ clinical care vests.
Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to shape a health service in one of New Zealand’s largest secondary schools. You will have a dedicated office space for clinical administration and the autonomy to build a best-practice medical facility.
